Compact Antenna Design for Smart Jewelry and Wearables

Wearable devices need to combine reliable technology with comfort, compactness and design that users are willing to wear every day. This is especially demanding in smart jewelry, where electronic components must fit into very small and visually refined forms without compromising communication performance.

The project focused on the design of a compact and efficient antenna for Bluetooth Low-Energy communication, integrated into the metal shell of a wearable jewelry device. One of the main challenges was to place the antenna inside the metal part of the device while respecting strict aesthetic and mechanical constraints. This required careful adaptation of the antenna design to the shape of the jewelry and the available space.

The antenna was developed using computer simulations and fine-tuning of the prototype. It is based on a microstrip-patch antenna concept adapted to the specific form of the jewelry. Compared with existing solutions in smart jewelry, the developed antenna provided improved communication performance, enabling longer reach and more stable connection between the jewelry and a smartphone.
